The Department embraced the CBSE curriculum within three months of chief minister Basavaraj Bommai’s announcement in his maiden budget speech. The officials of the Minority Department have beefed up their efforts to adopt the CBSE curriculum for 29 schools in order to bring those schools on a par with private schools. One of the primary objectives of introducing a central board syllabus in the minority welfare department is to prepare the students to tackle competitive examinations such as the KCET, JEE, CLAT, CUSAT, NEET, etc. Major P Manivannan, the Principal Secretary of the minority welfare department, along with his colleagues, has succeeded in introducing the curriculum in 29 schools in the first phase.  The secretary sanctioned Rs 29 lakh for the procurement of textbooks of NCERT, with each school receiving Rs 1 lakh.

The department has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Azim Premji Foundation. The agreement is to conduct training programs so as to help enhance the quality of education imparted at the schools. “The MoU will help assess the performance of both teachers and students. Data from this comprehensive assessment program will help provide inputs on meaningful engagement to improve teaching at schools. The Students are pleased with the introduction of the CBSE syllabus in all such schools. The department conducts the training session for teachers which are expected to start in a couple of weeks.

The department has geared up in keeping in view of the CM’s announcement, CBSE syllabus will be introduced in one minority department school in each district. This has already been achieved in 29 districts, and will ensure that one school from the remaining two districts too adopt the CBSE curriculum, he said. At present the state of Karnataka has 31 districts, hence 2 more districts also come into the same stream.MLC and former minister Basavaraj Horatti are all praise for the initiative.
