It is a part of Computer Science enabling a machine to perform tasks that require human-like intelligence and this is done by computer. The term AI has become more popular due to recent advances in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Machine learning is the area of artificial intelligence where machines are responsible for completing daily tasks and they are smarter than humans. They are known to learn, adapt and perform much faster than humans and are programmed to do so. Robotics and integration with IoT devices have taken machines to think and work to a new level where they out-perform humans in their cognitive abilities and smarts. If you look at some examples of AI, Alexa is an example of AI technology along with other assistants like Google Assistant, Siri, Bixby, etc.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the basis for mimicking human intelligence processes through the creation and application of algorithms built into a dynamic computing environment. AI is trying to make computers think and act like humans. Artificial Intelligence has always been used for making smarter business decisions. AI technology can coordinate data delivery, analyze trends, develop data consistency, provide forecasts, and quantify uncertainties to make the best decisions for the company.

Since the 1st century BCE, humans have been intrigued by the possibility of creating machines that mimic the human brain. In modern times, artificial intelligence was coined in 1955 by John McCarthy. In 1956, McCarthy and others organized a conference on “Dartmouth Summer Research Project on Artificial Intelligence.” This beginning led to the creation of machine learning, deep learning, predictive analytics, and now to prescriptive analytics. It also gave rise to data science.

Importance of AI:

They are being seen as tools and techniques to make this world better.

a. Making life easier. They can operate in an automated fashion.

b. These technologies are a great asset to humans and are programmed to minimize human effort as much as possible

c. Virtual customer assistance (VCA). Call centres use VCA to predict and respond to customer inquiries outside of human interaction. Voice recognition, coupled with simulated human dialogue, is the first point of interaction in a customer service inquiry.

d. These machines speed up all tasks and processes with guaranteed accuracy and precision, making them a useful and valuable tool

e. Apart from making the world an error-free place with their simple and everyday techniques, these technologies and applications are not only related to our ordinary and everyday life.

f. AI is used in diverse fields such as Cyber security, military, government agencies, Advertisement, Automations

g. It is used in the assessment of colleges/ universities by NAAC/NBA/NIRF etc.

Uses of Artificial Intelligence:

Important uses of Artificial Intelligence are as follows:

1.  Medical Science

a. AI has made an unprecedented impact in the medical industry and changed the face of the medical industry.

b. Various machine learning algorithms and models have efficiently predicted various important use cases, such as determining whether a particular patient has malignant or benign cancer or tumour based on symptoms, health records, and history.

c. AI techniques are also used in medical fields to search for cancer cells on MRI with high precision by highly trained radiologists.

e. It is used to monitor, research different types of cases, and analyze past cases and their outcomes.

f. It also seeks to improve its models and assistants` efficiency by predicting what could be improved and making themselves smarter.

g. The use of healthcare bots is another efficient move taken by the medical industry to work their way up in medicine, which is known to provide 24/7 assistance.

2. Field of Air Transport

a. Artificial Intelligence is involved in planning the routes along with the flight landing and take-off charts.

b. Artificial intelligence has been used in many aircraft, navigation maps, taxing routes, and a quick examination of the entire cockpit panel to ensure the correct operation of each component.

3. Banking and financial institutions

a. The day-to-day operations of banks, such as transactions and financial operations, stock market money and their management, etc., are being handled more easily and efficiently by the machine learning models.

b. Use cases such as anti-money laundering where suspicious financial transactions are being monitored and reported to regulators are a classic example of artificial intelligence in the banking and financial industry.

c. Other use cases include credit systems analysis by credit card companies. Suspicious credit card transactions are tracked geographically and acted upon and resolved based on various parameters.

4. Gaming and entertainment

a. AI made the biggest leap forward from virtual reality games to today`s modern games, Bots are always there for you to play with, so you don`t need another person to play.

b. Personalized detail and graphics is possible due to the advent of Artificial Intelligence which is taking this industry to a different level.

5. Achieves Unprecedented Accuracy

a. AI achieves remarkable accuracy through deep neural networks, which was previously impossible.

In order to achieve the above, we require three key components:

  1. Computational systems
  2. Data and data management
  3. Advanced AI algorithms (code)

Gartner estimates that 70% of people will interact with conversational AI platforms on a daily basis by 2022. NLP and CV provide a valuable link between humans and robots. NLP helps computer programs understand human speech, and CV applies machine learning models to images and is perfectly suited for everything from selfie filters to medical imaging.

The AI will be the order of the day. As already said AI will penetrate into all services, as such this is considered to be the best career for at least another 2 decades.

For professionals with 4-8 years of experience, the salary range can be around Rs. 35-50 lakh per annum, and those with over ten years of experience can earn over Rs. 1 crore per annum. The annual salary packages of artificial intelligence job roles also vary based on location. In Mumbai salary is Rs 15.6 per annum, in Bangalore Rs 14.5 per annum and in Chennai Rs. 10.4 per annum. The job opportunity is very wide everywhere including in India.
