Social activists and parents with members of the Karnataka Rashtra Samiti held a protest in front of a Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) school in the Bogadi area of Mysore city. The protesters accused the institution of denying admission to 24 students allotted seats under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. The Act provides for the right of free and compulsory education to children until they complete their elementary education in a school in the neighbourhood.

The agitators submitted a request to the office of the Dy. Commissioner to intervene and ensure justice for the students from socially and economically weaker sections. On the advice of the district administration, Ramachandra Raje Urs, Deputy Director of Public Instructions visited the school and promised that the department will provide justice to the students, besides taking action against the school. He assured the parents that the interest of the students would be protected. The parents alleged that under RTE, 12 students were allotted for LKG and 12 students for Class I in this school. The admission process was completed in May. All were informed that the classes will start on June 6. However, on June 5, the parents were informed they would have to wait for a few more days to send their kids to school.  Later the management declined to admit the kids, though it was guaranteed under RTE Act.  The Edunews observed that denying seats to children under RTI is not uncommon. The media advises the district administration to conduct meeting with the school`s administration before the commencement of the academic session and give them do’s and don’ts
