Mane-mana-Beti, a programme was implemented in the Puttur block education limits, where officials headed by Lokesh BEO, visit the houses of SSLC students every year to make sure of their living conditions.  During the visit, he came across Sunanda, a widow and daily wage worker, who lives with her two daughters in a dilapidated house, and used a tarpaulin as the roof. Sunanda is the mother of Anitha, whose living condition is in deplorable condition. Anitha studied using the lamp, and scored 568 marks in SSLC house in 2021, along with teacher Geethamani, Sunanda`s younger daughter. During a visit to the village, he could notice that Sunanda, with her meagre earnings, was able to send her children to school, despite hardships.  He felt sad looking at the dire condition of the family, who lived in a house covered by tarpaulin sheets. Despite hardships, elder daughter Lavanya has completed her degree and is working in a private firm in Puttur. Also, the BEO understood that Anitha studied using the chimney lamp as the family has no electricity connection.

The magnanimous BEO swings into action discussed with Geethamani and mobilized the support from many donors; making the dream of Sunanda a reality. Lokesh added that Rs 6 lakh has been donated to build the 550 sq ft house. The local government body donated Rs1.5 lakh, and the Inner Wheel Club of Puttur built a washroom at a cost of Rs 25,000. Rotary Club of Puttur also gave sufficient funds to complete the house. The house is 85% on the verge of completion, and it is being handed over to the family on July 1 2022.

Edunews express a big round of applause to Mr. Lokesh the BEO of Puttur limits. At the same time, Edunews questioned the gram panchayath or other local Panchayat officials why they could not do any to the family. What parameters they have followed to allot houses under the Ashraya scheme. The BEOs of other taluks have to fall in line.
