National Sports University is a central sports university established in Manipur of India. It is the first and only central university in India focusing on sports education. There are 98 colleges specialising in sports. As far as the states/ UTs are concerned, Delhi is the first one to establish Sports University in Delhi. The Sports University has been established as a state university and notified by the Delhi Government under a separate Act.
Three-fold Vision of the university:
- Enabling larger participation on international platforms and hence increasing the chances of securing more wins and medals through high-end sports training.
- Enabling a larger talent pool for Delhi Sports University and School and hence more chances at winning Olympic medals.

K Malleswari, India’s first woman Olympic Medallist and the recipient of Padma Shri, has been appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor. It is a first-of-its-kind school-university integrated institution for excellence in sports education. Its aim is to provide world-class sports training and education such that it will create more and more future medalists in world-class sports and games. DSU an integrated school education will run and administer multiple Delhi Sports Schools from grades 6th to 12th to build foundational core competencies in prospective high performing super sports persons. The university will also administer and manage specific training and coaching. Sports Divisions under Centres for Excellence of the university is to maintain quality-driven training facilities and infrastructure and impart world-class training to aspirant sportspersons.
Delhi Sports School is Delhi’s first fully residential school dedicated to sports and games. It will be operated and managed by Delhi Sports University. It aims to nurture the sporting talent among students to achieve the highest level of excellence in their chosen sport and perform at major sporting events alongside academics through a specialized sports integrated curriculum.
There is no lack of talent but of right grooming, support and motivation are dormant. With this vision, Delhi Sports University has been instituted to revolutionize the sports ecosystem in India. The university is making the best sporting facilities available to sports talent from every corner of the country.
Delhi Sports University (DSU) is a unique school-university integrated school that creates a sporting pathway for young talent from school to the Olympics. The majority of sports talent in India comes from rural, low socio-economic strata of the society has no access to excellent sporting facilities. DSU make all-out an arrangement to discover sports talent from the grassroots including the rural and inclusivity. Further, it nurtures them to build sports champions in India so as to motivate them to not only participate in the Olympics, commonwealth games, Asian games and sports at various blocs and continents.
DSU will enhance sports performance through sports science, world-class infrastructure, training and curriculum, thereby forming an end-to-end sports ecosystem.
