Minimum THREE / FOUR years and Maximum FIVE / SIX years for FULL-time and PART-time research respectively.
Ph.D. - Stands for Doctor of Philosophy in Kannada. Typically, a Ph.D. is a four or five year postdoctoral degree depending on submission of thesis. The minimum eligibility for this degree is M.Phil in Kannada. The students under this degree are required to prepare a detailed thesis on subjects such as Kannada Poetry, Kannada Drama, Kannada Fiction, Kannada Literary Criticism and Literary History etc.
The main objective of the course is to provide comparative perspectives of learning by juxtaposing, comparing, contrasting literatures across cultures and languages. the course aims at encouraging the students to undertake translation of Indian texts into English as an attempt at reaching other comers of the world.
Through Ph.D. in Kannada course, institutes aims at preserving regional languages, folklore and culture, study literature beyond conventional norms and project it as a knowledge system.
