The Department currently offers M.Sc. in Botany under choice based credit system (CBCS). Medicinal Plants is offered as the choice based paper in the II semester and Pant Propagation in the III semester of the M.Sc. programme. Other papers offered in the M.Sc. programme are Plant Morphology and Taxonomy, Plant Biochemistry, Cytogenetics and Molecular Biology, Basic Microbiology, Plant Physiology, Plant Breeding, Applied Microbiology, Plant Biotechnology, Plant Pathology, Ecology and Environment, Seed Technology, Bio-diversity and Conservation.
Post Graduate course in Applied Botany was started in the year 1988 as a Division of Applied Botany under the Department of Biosciences and was elevated as an independent Department in 1994. Since then, the Department is actively involved in floristic studies of the Western Ghat forests, structural studies, micro propagation, conservation, ethnobotanical explorations, plant microbe interactions, effects of radiations on plants etc.
