M.Sc. in Biological Sciences is a 2- year long post graduate program designed to equip students with the generic skills of a researcher in Biomedical Sciences, Ecology, Evolution and Behavior or Plant Molecular Sciences with a broad base of knowledge in the Biological Sciences.
The course is intended to train students with the important aptitudes of a Specialist in Biomedical Sciences, and Sub-Atomic Sciences etc. It aims to train eligible students in the key nonexclusive aptitude required to be a logical scientist.
Successful postgraduates of the course may find work in branches like Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, Physiology and Population Biology. They may also find lucrative employment opportunities in healthcare industries like Pharmaceutical Industries, Medical Research, Genetic Engineering, Lab Technology and Pharmaceutical Sales, research institutes or areas like Material Science, Biomedical Science, Chemical and Physical Science and Engineering.
The Department of Biosciences has fot rayed into diverse research fields such as biodiversity, fresh water, marine and estuarine ecology, biology of fungi, algae, cyanobacteria, pill-millipedes, mussels, fish, physiology, environmental biology, cancer biology, genotoxicology, neuroscience etc. This has been possible due to its strategic location between the biodiversity-rich Western Ghats and the Netravathi and Gurpur rivers flowing into the Arabian Sea to the West. Further, being in the vicinity of medical institutions has also geared our focus towards application-based research in bio-medical science. This research enterprise has also moulded the teaching and enabled need-based modifications in the curriculum that enable the student to learn current trends in the field of Life Sciences.
