• Paragon Testing Enterprises, a subsidiary of The University of British Columbia (UBC), was created in 2009 to commercialize the university’s English language proficiency tests.

• Candidates willing to appear for CAEL will have to register themselves, for which any one of the following methods may be adopted:

• Please note that CAEL CE Test Centres do not process any registrations.
• All registrations must be completed through the CAEL CE office by one of the methods listed above.
• Test registration closes 2 to 3 days before the scheduled test date.
• It is recommended that test takers register well in advance, because test centres have limited capacity and registration requests are processed in the order in which they are received.
• Before starting the registration process, candidates have to make sure to have the following ready:
  • original, valid photo identification
  • a list of institutions that candidate would like to send their scores to (optional)
  • a credit card (Visa®, MasterCard® or American Express®) to make the registration fee payment
• If test takers have provided all the required information and the exam authority has received the payment, registration request will be processed within 3 business days.
• Test takers will then receive a Test Confirmation Email.
• They must review this email, print it out, and bring it with them on test day.

Fee Structure and Payment

• The fee for CAEL CE in Canada is CAD $280.00 + tax, which may vary.
• If candidates do not have a credit card for online payment, the exam authority recommends prepaid credit cards such as MasterCard® Prepaid Cardsor Visa® Gift Cards that test takers can purchase at several stores across Canada. Full payment must be made with one card only.
• They can also purchase RBC Visa® Gift Cardsat any RBC Royal Bank branch in Canada.
• The exam authority does not accept personal cheques.
• If test takers are paying by money order, payment must be made in Canadian dollars (CAD$) and made payable to “Paragon Testing Enterprises Inc.“.
• The name of the person taking the test or ordering study materials must be on the front of the money order.
• The exam authority does not accept Visa® Debit as payment.
• If paying by credit card, test takers’ statement will show this transaction as “Paragon Testing Ent.”, they must ensure that anyone who reviews the statement is aware of the transaction.

Re-evaluation Request

• Candidates can apply for re-evaluation of some or all components of their CAEL CE Test within six months of the test date.
• They must pay a re-evaluation fee at the time of their application that depends on which components of the test they would like re-evaluated.
• If the CAEL CE level changes for any component that has been re-evaluated, the re-evaluation fee for this component will be refunded.
• Candidates must note that there is a limit of one re-evaluation for any particular component of the test.
• Re-evaluation requests are final and cannot be cancelled once the request has been submitted.
• Test takers who apply for a re-evaluation of their test results will be notified of the results of the re-evaluation in approximately two to three weeks of submission of their application and payment of the re-evaluation fee.

2. Test Confirmation Email

• Once registered, you will be emailed a test confirmation email. Make sure to bring a digital or print copy of the email with you to the test sitting.
• The test confirmation email will include the following information:
  • Your test registration number.
  • Your name. Check the name on the test confirmation email to make sure that it is spelled exactly the same as on your identification.
  • Test sitting information. Check carefully the address of the testing centre, and the date and time of the test.
