• The Bar Council of India was established by Parliament under the Advocates Act, 1961.
• Bar Council of India sets the standard for legal education across the country.
• AIBE is a national-level examination conducted by the Bar Council of India to assess whether provisionally enrolled advocates or fresh law graduates have the aptitude to practice law.
• Earlier, the exam was conducted as an open book test in which candidates were allowed to carry study material inside the exam hall. 
• However, from 2021 onwards, candidates will only be allowed to carry Bare Acts without notes inside the test centre.
• The exam will no more be held as an open-book examination. 

Exam Highlights

• All India Bar Examination (AIBE) 2021 mentions question paper details including the type of questions, subjects, weightage, and marking scheme.
• The Bar Council of India (BCI) will be conducting AIBE (XVI) 16th this year in April.
• The exam will be held in pen-paper-based test mode.
• The question paper will basically have knowledge-based and reasoning skills questions carry one mark
• No negative marking in case of wrong attempts
• Unlike the earlier exams conducted as an open book exam, AIBE-XVI onwards no books, notes, or study material will be allowed in the examination hall.
• Candidates can only carry Bare Acts without notes. 

• AIBE application form 2021 submission will end on March 22. 
• The registered candidates can complete their AIBE application form latest by March 31. 
• The last date to register online for AIBE 2021 exam was February 21. However, the Bar Council of India (BCI) extended the application dates by about a month. 
• Candidates can fill the application form for AIBE 2021 on the official website of the law exam. 
• Before applying for the exam, candidates must ensure that they AIBE eligibility criteria. 
• The AIBE XVI application form was released on December 26, 2020. The AIBE XVI 2021 exam will be held on April 25.
• Candidates can pay the application fee for AIBE 2021 in offline mode only using the fee challan of the State Bank of India (SBI). The application fee challan will be provided on the applicant`s dashboard itself. candidates have to download the fee challan and pay the application fee at the nearest SBI branch.

How to apply for AIBE (XVI) 2021?

• Step 1 - Online Registration for AIBE XVI
  • Visit the official website of AIBE-http://www.allindiabarexamination.com 
  • The online registration can be done with the following details: 
    • Advocate ID Card
    • Enrollment certificate
    • Scanned photo and signature
    • Category certificate
    • Disability certificate 
  • Once, the details above are filled click on `I agree` for acknowledgment and `Accept` to register and proceed for application 
• Step 2 - Filling up the application form
  • Candidates need to fill the personal information in the form:
    • Name
    • Gender
    • Father’s/husband’s name
    • Date of birth
    • Permanent address
    • Email ID
    • Mobile number
  • They need to provide their academic qualification details as under:
    • Name of the college
    • The course duration of LLB
    • Graduation stream
    • Admission year and pass out year of the LLB degree
    • Master`s degree/any other qualification (if available)
    • Enrollment number (as mentioned in enrollment certificate)
  • Once all details are filled in, candidates need to click on the Next button.
  • Register a valid E-mail Id to receive AIBE 2019 Registration Number and Password on it 
• Step 3 - Upload Documents
  • Log in again with the provided ID and password and upload the documents mentioned below:

• Step 4 - Select Test Language & Test Centre
  • Aspirants need to fill in details such as Candidate type (Fresh or Repeat student), Category (General/OBC/SC/ST), and also mention if they have any disability.
  • Candidates need to give three preferences for the list of 44 test cities.
  • Aspirants need to select the AIBE question paper language from –

  • Step 5 - Application Fee Payment 
    • The application fee of AIBE XVI can be paid in offline mode by only using the SBI bank challan at the nearest branch.
    • Candidates can download the auto-generated bank challan of SBI Bank as per their selected reserved category.
    • They have to visit their nearest SBI branch at least 24 hours after AIBE registration to pay the application fee.
    • The fee challan will have three copies - one for the bank, one for BCI, and one for the candidates.
    • The bank official will keep their copy and BCI`s copy, and handover, the remaining copy to the candidates with their stamp, journal number and bank code. 
  • Step 6: Fee Payment Status and Uploading Challan
    • Candidates need to visit the official website of AIBE again after they have deposited the application fee at the SBI branch at least after 24 hours.
    • They need to upload their SBI Bank Challan and fill up details like journal number, branch code, and date of payment receipt. 
  • Step 7: Application form submission 
    • Candidates have to download their submitted application form once all the steps above have been completed.
    • Candidates need not send the hardcopy of the AIBE XVI application form to the official address, as it needs to be submitted in online mode only.
    • Candidates need to download it for future references. 

Fee Structure

• Candidates can download the auto-generated bank challan of SBI Bank as per their selected reserved category.
• They have to visit their nearest SBI branch at least 24 hours after AIBE registration to pay the application fee.
• The application fee can be paid in cash along with bank charges as under:

• The fee challan will have three copies - one for the bank, one for BCI, and one for the candidates.
• The bank official will keep their copy and BCI`s copy, and handover, the remaining copy to the candidates with their stamp, journal number, and bank code. 

All India Bar Examination (AIBE) XVI is scheduled to be held on April 25. Meanwhile, Bar Council of India (BCI) conducted AIBE 15 on January 24, 2021, across India at more than 45 test cities. All India Bar Examination (AIBE) was held from 10 am in pen-paper based test mode. After the examination, the expert team of Edunews was able to observe the question paper series wise and offer the following comments.

AIBE 2020 Exam Analysis:  All India Bar Examination (AIBE) 15 was conducted as an open book exam, however, candidates found it difficult to attempt the examination since, it is not confirmed from where the questions would be asked. The question paper carried 100 multiple-choice questions based on 19 law subjects and the test paper was printed in 11 languages which candidates could select based on their preference. Questions figured on the fundamentals of law, Hindu Marriage Act, Muslim law, Contract Act, CrPC, IPC, recent talaq, writs, case laws, precedents, CPC, IPR, PIL, taxation laws, labour laws, constitutional law, torts, property laws, negotiable instruments, ADR, Companies Act, Land Tribunal, Indian Evidence Act, etc. 

AIBE XVI 2020 Result is expected to be released soon on the official website of BCI probably in the third week of March, 2021.  The cutoff marks for both general and reserved categories will also be released by BCI once the results are out. General candidates who score 40% marks and reserved candidates who score 35% marks will be considered qualified for AIBE XV 2020. Candidates qualifying the exam will be issued the `Certificate of Practice` (COP) from Bar Council of India. After the declaration of the result containing the names of all qualified candidates, BCI will publish merit list of AIBE 2020.

AIBE XVI 2020 Answer Key has been released on January 30, 2021. Candidates who appeared for the exam held on January 24, 2021 can check the result and download the answer key from the official website by entering their login credentials.

AIBE 2021 Eligibility Criteria 

• Candidates holding three-year or five-year LLBdegree are eligible for appearing in AIBE.
• All candidates must be enrolled as an advocate with their respective State Bar Council, under Section 24 (1) (f) of Advocates Act, 1961.
• There is no upper age limit or lower age limit for candidates taking the exam.

Factors affecting AIBE cut off

As per the past years cut off analysis, listed below are the reasons/factors affecting the cut off marks:

After the removal of wrong questions the cut-off marks for AIBE (14) 2019 are so:

Hence, according to the cut-off marks, the General and OBC category candidates obtaining a minimum of 36 marks and more will be considered `PASS`. For SC/ ST category, candidates obtaining 31 marks and more will be considered `PASS` and eligible for COP. BCI will issue `Certificate of Practice (COP)` to all AIBE 14 qualified candidates. 

AIBE Previous Years Cut off

AIBE cutoff 2020 will be released by the Bar Council of India (BCI) along with the declaration of the result in the third week of March 2021. AIBE cut-off 2020 mentions minimum marks that candidates need to obtain for clearing the examination. 

• BCI will conduct the AIBE exam in 45 cities across India. Candidates can select up to three test centres based on their preference from the below-listed cities

• AIBE 2020 result date has been postponed by the Bar Council of India (BCI).
• Earlier, the AIBE result was scheduled to be out in the first week of March 2021.
• However, as per the latest notification, the result will now be announced in the third week of March.
• The results of AIBE 2020 will be published on the official website of the exam only
• Candidates can check their qualifying status for AIBE 2020 by logging in on the official website.
• Candidates who obtain 40% marks out of total scores (35% marks for SC/ST categories) will be considered AIBE 2020 qualified. 
• BCI will award a Certificate of Practice (COP) to candidates who will qualify for the examination. 

Cut off marks: To clear AIBE and qualify for Certificate of Practice (COP), candidates need to score at least 40 marks out of a total of 100 marks, if belonging to the General/ OBC category and 35 marks if belonging to SC/ST category.

Rechecking AIBE Answer Sheets

• Candidates can get their answer sheets rechecked by BCI by requesting within the specified dates.
• Rechecking can be done via offline and online modes
• Answer sheet rechecking online:
  • Visit the official website of AIBE 15 - http://www.allindiabarexamination.com/ 
  • In the new tab, put in your roll number and request OTP on the registered mobile number
  • Enter the OTP received on the mobile number and proceed to book a slot (date and timings) for an appointment with BCI for `answer sheet rechecking`.
  • Candidates then have to visit the official address of BCI for answer sheet rechecking, and also need to pay the fee of Rs 200 in cash there itself.
• Answer sheet rechecking via offline:
  • For rechecking of the answer sheet in offline mode, candidates need to download the request form from the official website. 
  • fill in all the details including, name, email address, contact number, and Demand Draft details 
  • The Deman Draft should be drawn in favour of `Bar Council of India` and to be payable at New Delhi. 
  • After filling the form, candidates need to enclose it with DD and send it to the address below: 
  • BCI will declare or send details of the answer sheet rechecking within seven working days of receiving the application form. 
• Answer sheet rechecking by students themselves: 
  • Candidates can request rechecking their AIBE answer sheets themselves.
  • They need to book a time slot to visit the Bar Council of India, New Delhi.
  • They need to send the same application by mentioning YES against the question ` Will you visit BCI for rechecking?`.
  • The council will inform candidates about the availability of the time slot once the application is received.
• Candidates should note that BCI will not provide or allow candidates to take a copy of their answer sheet under any circumstances. Candidates can only refer to AIBE official answer key available on the official website for rechecking purposes if required. 

• The Bar Council of India (BCI) will release the AIBE 2021 admit card on April 10.
• Candidates appearing for the AIBE exam can download the admit card by login with details such as their registration ID and date of birth.
• AIBE 2021 will be conducted on April 25 in pen-paper-based test mode and this will be the XVI (16) bar examination.
• AIBE (XVI) 2021 admit card will be available in online mode only on the official website of AIBE. 
• AIBE Admit card 2019 is a mandatory document for appearing in the examination.
• Candidates should carry at least one valid photo ID along with their admit card for appearing in the AIBE exam.

• Candidates should carry any of the following Photo Id proofs along with their admit card on the exam day:

 Exam Day - Conduct and Guidelines

• Candidates should follow the instructions given by the test centre officials on the exam day.
• Candidates should also follow the AIBE exam day instructions as given on the admit card
• Candidates should report to the exam centres at least one hour before the exam timings.
• To avoid the last-minute rush, candidates are should check the allotted test centre location, name as well as evaluate the distance and time required to reach, at least a day or two before the exam day.
• On the exam day, candidates must carry the below-mentioned items with them:
  • Two ballpoint pens, the colour should be black or blue ink for marking answers on the OMR sheet. 
  • AIBE Admit card ( at least two copies)
